Pictures: Florence

Because the weather was pretty crappy in Florence, I really didn't take a whole lot of pictures. But here's a photo from the one sunny day of the Duomo.

You can't actually take pictures of the real David in the Accademia so I decided this copy outside would have to suffice.

Close up on the fleur-de-lis. Fantastic how it's both Kappa's and Florence's flower. It was a kappalicious couple of days in that city.

The River Arno. I like to take pictures of the Italian rivers.

Walking towards Ponte Vecchio at night.

Arno again (this time at night...oooh different) with Ponte Vecchio.

Doors to the Duomo...waiting for the Exploding Cart to begin on Easter.

More standing around and waiting....more pictures.

The procession begins! This event was probably the coolest thing I saw on my trip. Definitely worth standing outside in cold drizzle for 2 hours.

Daddy, I think instead of bothering Mom to make you a Swiss Guard outfit for Halloween, you should rock one of these.

The cart is brought in.

Pulled by four white oxen with cute little booties. And bows on their tails.

Adorable little boy flag twirler.

The cart was so large that they had to use a cherry picker in order to put the fireworks on the top.

Ok, the little boy was cute but these flag twirlers/tossers were amazing. The pictures don't capture how cool it was when they threw all these flags around the circle.

The people with the good seats...inside.

It begins! A rocket is fired out from inside the church!

Fireworks and smoke fill the sky!

Purple smoke goes off too!

These little guys spun around on the cart! (Yes, everything in this series of pictures needs to be punctuated with an exclamation point. It was AMAZING)

More explosions!

The cart doesn't actually explode. But all the crazy fireworks more than make up for this little misnomer.

A little rest before...

My favorite set of explosions!

And a nice little finale of flags popping out of the top. A great way to spend Easter. Too bad the weather sucked.
